It was ironic that Legacy's room is Rock Star, and in the delivery room on the roof was this sticker.. it was ment to be I guess :)
For a while prior to this day, each day I would PRAY that I would go into labour, especially since a week prior the Dr had put me on bed rest due to my rising blood pressure, swelling, and weight gain :( But of course each day would pass with disappointment of not being in labour. We tried a couple of the so called "natural ways to induce labour" .... which I highly doubt any of them even work. Anyways on Tuesday morning I had to take the car in for some maintenance early in the morning, and the previous night I hadn't gotten much sleep at all so I was already tired, then when I got home I should have taken a nap.. but I didn't (which later I regretted). That afternoon around 1:30 I noticed a small wet spot on the couch where I had been sitting, I was really hoping it was a bit of my water breaking and not me accidentally peeing. I tried laying down to see if there was more.. no luck. I phoned the health link and they assessed me and said since there is a chance its my water breaking that I need to go to the hospital. So I gathered my bag and the baby bag etc. Mom drove me to the Peter Lougheed, and Bryan met us there. We went into the triage, and the Dr assessed me, said it wasn't my water (SO embarrassing), but they keep checking my blood pressure and said they didn't like how high it was and said they were debating inducing me today or scheduling me in. They decided to just induce me, especially since every two minutes they would come in a check my blood pressure, and ask me "Are you sure your not having chest pain, or trouble breathing" So apparently that's what I should have been feeling. Anyways we got into the delivery room around 5:00pm, then at 5:30 they broke my water (wow was that ever WEIRD) I have no idea what I thought it would be like.. but it wasn't anything like I thought it would be.. Right away I started feeling some pain, after about half hour they started giving me the oxitocin. Contractions started on pretty strong right away and were pretty close together.. and I was dilating rather quickly. Once the pain was just WAY to much I got an epidural when I was about 7-8 cm, however the anesthesiologist took a really long time (like 20-30minutes) to give the epidural to me.. he ended up putting it in a couple times and taking it out (kind of annoying since I just wanted the drugs at that point)..however I was having contractions every 30 seconds, as soon as one would end the next would come. Thank goodness the epidural kicked in pretty quick. Each time the Dr's would come in they would say oh we'll come back 1 hour or 2 ( and I was thinking are you kidding me.. can't we push now).. eventually I just said to my nurse I HAVE to push. Legacy was facing up, so I had to push for a while to try and turn him to face down.. which it worked, but then I was exhausted from turning him. Once I started pushing him to get him out, his heart rate would drop each time I pushed so they were concerned and wanted to use the forceps, but changed their minds to the vacuum. So a million more Dr's and nurses came in while the Dr used the vacuum. Then walla Legacy Wade Ulrich was born at 11:16PM weighing 8lbs 9oz, 20" long. Labour was painful (yes even with an epidural.. I'm a WUSS), but it was quick, however I'd do it a million times over just to have my baby boy. So worth the wait and pain for the last 9 months. We are so in love with our little Legacy, and being a Mom is the best blessing ever. Here are some pictures of his first couple days!!
